Keep up on What’s Happening on the Alaska Fisheries Science Center
Arctic Cruise in August

Throughout the month of August, NOAA Fisheries scientist Jessica Randall will be sending dispatches from the NOAA ship Ron Brown. The ship is conducting surveys in the U.S. Chukchi and Beaufort Seas to obtain baseline oceanographic data. Sampling is also being conducted at hotspots for productivity and biodiversity, known as Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO) sites (for more information see: http://www.arctic.noaa.gov/dbo/about).

This survey, in its fifth year of operations, is part of a multi-institutional effort to improve our understanding of arctic ecosystems.

Meet Jessica Randall, a researcher on this cruise

Jessica Randall is part of the Fisheries Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (FOCI) with the Alaska Fisheries Science Center where she works to identify larval fish collected from the Arctic, Bering Sea, and Gulf of Alaska. One of her favorite aspects of her job is going to sea and getting to work with a diverse group of dedicated individuals. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Washington in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences. Prior to working with FOCI, Jessica was a contractor for the Northwest Fisheries Science Center and worked as a North Pacific Groundfish Observer. In her spare time she enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and traveling.
