He has contributed original information on the early life history of juvenile sablefish and walleye pollock tagging. Tom helps coordinate many of the outreach efforts at our lab involved with the annual NOAA Middle School Science Camp, Sea Week Activities, and mentors high school students for the Southeast Alaska Science Fair. He also volunteers as science judge for the science fair.

Tom worked for seven years at the University of Michigan Great Lakes Research Division studying the effects of cooling water intakes of coal and nuclear electrical generating plants. Other research included, lake trout spawning, artificial reef SCUBA studies, and underwater observations of lake trout and lake whitefish.

Tomís work at ABL has focused on the life history of juvenile sablefish that included migration, distribution and year class strength estimation. Tom also started the juvenile sablefish survey in southeast Alaska and the young of the year sablefish surveys which use gill nets during the longline surveys.
