Current Activities
Dana is the lead stock assessment author for Alaska sablefish and Gulf of Alaska Pacific ocean perch. He serves on the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands Groundfish Plan Team. Current research activities include sablefish movement ecology, estimation of the effect size of whale depredation on sablefish catch rates, and general population dynamics. Dana is also an affiliate faculty member at the University of Alaska –Fairbanks and serves on several Ph.D. student committees.

Dana is from Michigan, where lakes are big, but came to Alaska because oceans are bigger. He received his B.S. in ecology from the University of Michigan, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in fisheries from the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. His dissertation focused on survey design and stock assessment of Gulf of Alaska Pacific ocean perch.
