Get to Know NOAA Symposium is an annual event, held every fall at NOAA's Western Regional Center (WRC) in Seattle, Washington. Created originally as an "in-reach" event in 2005 by the NOAA Northwest Regional Education and Outreach Group (NWREOG), the event's goal is to increase awareness of the diversity of NOAA programs and services to NOAA staff.
On 4 November 2009, in celebration of the 5th anniversary of the event, the schedule of events includes "Taking the Pulse of the Planet" film festival as well as speakers, information booths, raffle, and refreshments. Information booths will be theme oriented, highlighting the diversity of NOAA programs and activities:
NOAA Works: Coordinating with Partners
NOAA Responds, Restores and Recovers
NOAA Navigates: Charts, Tides, Currents
NOAA and a Changing Planet
NOAA Manages our Public Trusts
Innovations at NOAA
NOAA: Operations and Support
On 5 November 2009 a special screening of the movie "A Sea Change" will be shown starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Building 9 auditorium (http://www.aseachange.net/about.htm). This showing, sponsored by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL), will be followed by a special Q&A session with NOAA's leading expert on ocean acidification, Dr. Richard Feely.
All events will take place at Building 9 at the NOAA WRC (address & map). These events are open to the public, but due to security at this facility guests will need to present a valid government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license or passport) at the front gate to enter. The schedule of these 2009 events will be available on this page at the end of October. For more information about these events contact: Rebecca.reuter@noaa.gov
