Current Activities
Jeff Breiwick conducts research on eastern Pacific gray whale and bowhead whale abundance as well as research on management procedures developed by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to manage commercial whaling (baleen whales) and aboriginal subsistence whaling (e.g. bowhead and gray whales). His research also involves various other management related issues of concern to the IWC, population modeling, and estimation of biological parameters. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the IWC.
Background
Jeff received his undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Fisheries at the University of Washington. After receiving his undergraduate degree he spent 3 years in Chile with the Peace Corps studying hake and centolla (king crab) biology at the Fisheries Development Institute.
