FMA Observer Services
The Observer Services Program is responsible for much of the interaction between the FMA Division
and North Pacific groundfish observers. Observer Services Program staff prepare observers for sea through
training and briefing. Training includes extensive instruction in safety and emergency procedures. Staff also assist at-sea observers through
inseason advising, and they debrief observers when they return from their
deployments. Through these activities, the Observer Services staff ensure that observers have the resources and support to complete
their collections of valuable fisheries data under difficult and often hazardous circumstances.
