Where do yellowfin sole live?
Yellowfin sole are distributed in North American waters from off British Columbia, Canada, to the Chukchi Sea and south along the Asian coast to about the South Korean coast in the Sea of Japan. In Alaska, they are most abundant on the Bering Sea continental shelf. Adults are benthic (bottom dwelling).
What do yellowfin sole eat?
Adults feed upon infauna and epifauna such as clams, polychaete worms, amphipods, other marine worms, and tunicates (such as sea squirts).
How do yellowfin sole reproduce?
Female yellowfin sole are about 10 years old when they are ready to spawn for the first time. Both male and female adult yellowfin migrate into shallow waters to spawn. Larval yellowfin are planktonic until they are older and larger juveniles, when they will settle to the bottom in shallow areas called nursery areas.
